USA Weightlifting Combine

SEDulous Performance is excited to host one of the USA Weightlifting combine series events in West Palm Beach on October 5th – October 10th. These testing events are the latest recruitment project aiming to find weightlifting's next Olympic hopeful.

All athletes are welcome to attend online or in person, but please be aware that the combine is meant to find new athletes to participate in the sport of weightlifting. The target athlete will not already be a member of USA Weightlifting. The combine series is $25 to attend, and members of USA Weightlifting are encouraged to invite friends, family, and classmates! Top athletes will be contacted at the end of the combine series for inclusion in the Transitional Athlete Program. Collegiate opportunities are available.

USA Weightlifting Combine Testing – 30M Sprint

  1. The Athlete starts in a standing start
  2. After the Athlete hears, “Go” from the Timer he/she will begin the sprint
  3. Timer will start watch when the Athlete's foot leaves the surface to start the sprint
  4. The Athlete will run the 30M sprint three times
  5. After running the 30M sprint, Athletes return to the group or coach at the starting line
  6. There will be an estimated 3-5-minute wait until the 2nd and 3rd 30M sprint attempts

How to Score the 30M Sprint

  • Set up a 40M lane either on a flat surface or track. Mark the 30M line with cones and the 40M line with cones.
  • Have two hand timers set at the finish line (30M)
  • 2 coaches will be needed to time
  • Once the athlete completes the sprint record the average of the two hand timers in the attempt line.
  • Repeat for next two attempts
  • Make sure to show the time in each recording
  • Athlete to upload to to the submission site

USA Weightlifting Combine Testing - Vertical jump

Jump Mat

  1. The Athlete will step onto the vert mat
  2. The Athlete starts jump with both feet planted on the ground.
  3. The Athlete may swing arms and dip knees.
  4. The Athletes may not shuffle feet before take-off as this will result in a scratch and jump will not count
  5. The athlete may not tuck their legs while in the air
  6. The athlete may not stomp on the mat when they land
  7. The Athlete attempts 3 jumps with 2-3 min of rest between

How to Score the Vertical Jump

  • Make sure to show the time in each recording
  • Athlete to upload to to the submission site

USA Weightlifting Combine Testing – Power Clean

  • The athlete will receive 15 minutes to warm up to 1st attempt
  • Do not attempt to hit your max weight on attempt 1
  • If the athlete is unsure of where to begin start with the bar and increase by 5-10kg
  • The athlete should start the lift from the floor
  • The bar must land on the shoulders in the front rack position
  • The bar should not be received on the chest and pushed up to the shoulders
  • Full cleans are not permitted

How to Score the Power Clean

  • Set up a 10ft x 10ft space for the athlete to test
  • 1 coach will be needed to record
  • Ensure the barbell is correctly loaded
  • Ensure the barbell has collars on to keep the weights from sliding
  • The athlete must catch the weight above parallel measured from the bottom of the hamstring
  • If the athlete drops below this point it will be recorded as a no lift
  • If the athlete reaches their 3rd attempt but looks good for more, they may attempt 1 additional lift
  • Make sure to show the time in each recording
  • Athlete to upload to to the submission site

USA Weightlifting Combine Testing – Back Squat

  • The athlete will receive 15 minutes to warm up to 1st attempt
  • Do not attempt to hit your max weight on attempt 1
  • If the athlete is unsure of where to begin start with the bar and increase by 5-10kg
  • The athlete should start the lift from the rack
  • The bar must rest across the top of the shoulders
  • Low bar back squat will not be permitted
  • The athlete must squat below parallel measured from the top of the quad

How to Score the Power Clean

  • Set up a 10ft x 10ft space for the athlete to test
  • 1 coach will be needed to record
  • Ensure the barbell is correctly loaded
  • Ensure the barbell has collars on to keep the weights from sliding
  • Make sure there are two side spotters so that the coaches view is not impeded for scoring
  • Ensure the athlete breaks parallel in the squat
  • If the athlete reaches their 3rd attempt but looks good for more, they may attempt 1 additional lift
  • Make sure to show the time in each recording
  • Athlete to upload to to the submission site
